Laurie Johnson, Assistant Coach, 15-18 age group lauriesj14@yahoo.com
Laurie has been swimming competitively since she was seven. Unfortunately, her parents did not know about Mesa or BVSSL, so she was on CARA (City of Boulder) until she joined a year-round team at age 12. She swam for Fairview and was team captain senior year (like some of our own Mesa swimmers) and then swam at Cornell College, a Division III school in Mount Vernon, IA, where she was also team captain. Laurie's best event was 200 butterfly, setting school records in that event and a few others.
Laurie began coaching as an assistant for Boulder Burst, when the City of Boulder started a team that was a part of BVSSL. She became the head coach after one year and stayed with the team for 10 years before moving to Kentucky. The team is now combined with another to make the Barracudas. In Kentucky, Laurie coached club for Wildcat Aquatics for a few seasons, but then decided it was time to come back home and start a family.
She and her husband, Rob, moved back in May, 2001, and Laurie started coaching that summer with Mesa. About 10 days after finals in 2002, Laurie had her son, Avery. She stayed with Mesa through the summer of 2005, but then did not return after the birth of her second child, Lainey.
Laurie took a second summer off in 2007, to be a part of opening a new hospital as a part of her job as Registration Manager at Platte Valley Medical Center. Her love of swimming and Mesa brought her back to Mesa in 2008. Laurie loves being a part of the Mesa program. To maintain balance in her family and work life, she is only able to able to coach part time. She will be dedicated to the 15-18 age group and will try to connect with as many others as she can.

Andrew Reetz, Assistant Coach, Pre-Team andrew.reetz@gmail.com
Andrew Reetz is a Colorado native and a MESA alumnus who loves the water. He recently completed his first year at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon where he will be double-majoring in Cultural Anthropology and Foreign Languages (French/Japanese). This past semester, although he was not on the swim team, he tried rowing, which gave him an entirely new perspective of water sports. He is extremely happy to come home to Boulder to work with his favorite team. During the summer when away from the pool, Andrew enjoys mountain biking, photography, and gardening. He cannot wait to experience MESA Swim Team as a coach as he strives to provide young swimmers with encouraging critiques, enriching environments, and valuable amusement that will make them adore swimming as much as he does. "MESA ASEM!"
